Sundre breaks high temperature record Thursday

Three areas in Alberta hit record high temps on Feb. 22

SUNDRE – The Sundre area hit a high temperature record Thursday.

According to Environment Canada's weather summary issued Thursday evening, the temperature rose to 10.8 C at the Sundre Airport on Feb. 22. 

That’s a new record for the date, the federal agency noted, since records in the area started being kept in 1993. 

The previous record high for the area on Feb. 22 was 10.1 C set in 2020.

The following areas set a daily maximum temperature record on Feb. 22, 2024 (temperature values given in degrees Celsius):

• Beaverlodge area – New record of 10.6. Old record of 9.4 set in 1970. Records in this area have been kept since 1912.

• Grande Prairie area – New Record of 9.7. Old Record of 8.9 set in 1970. Records in this area have been kept since 1922.

Environment Canada notes that the temperature records have been derived from a selection of historical stations in each geographical area that were active during the period of record and the summary may contain preliminary information.
