SUNDRE — Council agreed to appoint a representative to an ad hoc committee struck by the local Communities in Bloom group.
Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, informed council during a meeting last month that the organization sought wider community engagement from a variety of stakeholders for developing plans for the upcoming community tour.
That of course includes representation from the municipality, she said.
The committee determined, by consensus, to also seek representation from the Sundre & District Historical Society, the Sundre & District Chamber of Commerce, Sundre’s economic development and community services departments, as well as local youth.
The ad hoc committee is temporary in nature and will dissolve following the Communities in Bloom judges’ tour of the community, said Nelson.
“They did feel that it was important to reach out to a number of stakeholders to include them in this ad hoc committee for the planning of the Communities in Bloom tour this year,” she said.
Coun. Jaime Marr said she would be thrilled to let her name stand, with council unanimously carrying a motion appointing her to the ad hoc committee.
Sundre has a lengthy history of participating in both the provincial and national Communities in Bloom programs dating back to 1999. Although the group went on hiatus in 2008, a revitalized effort in 2017 breathed new life into Sundre Communities in Bloom, which in 2019 went onto earn five blooms in the provincial competition.
