SUNDRE - The recent Sikh Motorcycle Ride for Unity and Love for Humanity that came to Sundre last month was well received, according to the municipality's chief administrative officer.
Linda Nelson recapped the event during the Sept. 26 regular council meeting. She said that while no head count of community members was tallied, the event was well received.
“It was a wonderful event, and we met many incredible and caring people,” said Nelson, adding the municipality also “received a friendship plaque and an invitation to visit the Dashmesh Cultural Centre to find out more about this wonderful organization.”
Council carried a motion accepting Nelson’s report as information, and also had a related follow-up discussion on how to make arrangements to accept the invitation.
Mayor Richard Warnock said as a show of good faith and gratitude for the amount donated to the community – Greenwood Neighbourhood Place Society and McDougal Chapel’s Plus 1 Emergency Food Hamper service each received $11,000 – that council should find some time in the coming months to schedule a visit to the centre, which is located in Calgary.
Coun. Owen Petersen’s motion directing administration to connect and coordinate with the Dashmesh Cultural Centre to set up a suitable date for members of council to visit carried unopposed.
