SUNDRE — As council meetings are scheduled well in advance at an annual organizational session, the occasional date slips through the cracks and a timing conflict arises.

Such was the case with the Sundre council’s upcoming organizational meeting set for Oct. 31, which of course falls on the evening of Halloween.

Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, told council during the Oct. 17 meeting that administration’s recommendation was simply to reschedule the organizational meeting to Tuesday, Nov. 1.

Speaking in favour of the motion, Coun. Owen Petersen said, eliciting some laughter from council chamber,  “I think it would be inappropriate for me to wear what I’m going to wear on Halloween here to council.”

Levity aside, Coun. Jaime Marr added many members of council are also residents with families and children eager to trick or treat and said she appreciated the recommended motion.

“I’d actually like to see what councillor Petersen is going to wear!” added Coun. Chris Vardas, conjuring up another round of laughs.

Council proceeded to carry a motion rescheduling the Oct. 31 organizational to the following evening at the same time of 6 p.m.

Much to the Albertan’s chagrin, Petersen later said with a chuckle that he spoke in jest and did not actually have plans to don a costume.

Olds holds special meeting

Meanwhile, a special Olds town council meeting to discuss the town’s 2023 operating and capital budgets could be scarier than ever.

It’s set for at 9 a.m. Oct. 31.

Chief administrative officer Brent Williams was asked if anyone was planning to dress up for the occasion. He was unaware of anyone planning to do so.
