Sundre looking for new CAO

The Town of Sundre is looking for a new chief administrative officer (CAO) after council decided not to offer interim CAO Ryan Leuzinger a permanent position when his contract expires Dec. 31, says Mayor Annette Clews.

The Town of Sundre is looking for a new chief administrative officer (CAO) after council decided not to offer interim CAO Ryan Leuzinger a permanent position when his contract expires Dec. 31, says Mayor Annette Clews.

Although the decision not to offer Leuzinger the position was made by council resolution in October, the move was only made public last week.

“He was not fired,” said Clews. “Council has chosen not to renew his contract. His contract as the interim CAO expires at the end of December and council as a whole came to the decision not to offer him a new contract.”

The CAO oversees the operations, staffing and resources of the municipality and serves as an advisor to council.

Asked why council decided not to offer Leuzinger the permanent position, Clews said, “I can't say, for legal reasons.”

Leuzinger took over the interim position in March 2011 after the resignation of CAO Nita Bartholow.

Asked if Leuzinger will be staying on with the town until Dec. 31, Clews said, “He did say he would like to finish out his contract.”

The Town of Sundre placed an advertisement for the new CAO position in the Municipal World Canadian municipal online magazine on Wednesday and in this week's Round Up.
