Sundre officials work towards resgistering a tourism association

sundre-news

SUNDRE - Council approved the creation of an ad hoc committee that will work towards registering the Sundre Tourism Association, as part of an overarching effort to develop a vision for the municipality.

“This will be a short-lived committee that will be in place simply to get the process completed to formally register the tourism association,” said Linda Nelson, chief administrative officer, seeking all three readings and unanimous consent from council.

Seeking clarification, Coun. Cheri Funke inquired if the recently established Vision for Sundre Committee would oversee all of the other subcommittees, or whether the latter would stand alone, as well as whether they’ll report back to council or the vision committee.

“How is that going to work?” asked Funke.

“All of the committees will report to council,” replied Nelson.

“The Vision for Sundre is an umbrella committee, but each of those are symbiotic committees to the vision, and will each have their own terms of reference, and hopefully will each have a separate or couple of councillors appointed to them,” she said.

In this instance, she said the ad hoc tourism association committee is expected to be short-lived, and will fold once the tourism association is formed and registered as a non-profit, similar to the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce.

Council unanimously carried all of the bylaw’s readings, and later during the meeting passed unopposed another motion approving the following four members on the ad hoc committee: Brenda Holder, Mike Beukeboom, Chris Vardas and Ken Harris, along with council representation from Coun. Todd Dalke.
