We Day celebrates the youth movement for local and global change.

On Oct. 24, 20 students were picked from River Valley School's Me To We club to go to an inspirational concert in Calgary and listen to people speaking about making a difference.

Some were speaking from experience of being bullied or homeless, and others singing for a cause. After being stuck in early morning Calgary rush hour, we were finally at the Saddledome.

Students felt the energy and excitement rise.

Once at their seats the day started. Opening remarks and a performance by Hedley started the whole experience.

The hosts, Jesse Giddings and Jessi Cruickshank, kept the energy high. After a couple more speakers it was lunch. The students headed out to buy T-shirts and other souvenirs and were swept away by the rushing river of people. After swimming upstream to their seats, We Day resumed.

Students had the opportunity to listen to Martin Sheen, Liz Murry, Spencer West, and Larry King as well as Marc and Craig Kielburger. Hedley performed again along with Lights, Shawn Desman and the surprise guest, Mariana's Trench.

Marc and Craig Kielburger spoke about how kids have the power to change the world, and that they are are not alone. Soon the day was over and the students headed home holding the memory of the inspiring, life-changing experience as well as their next goal - to make a difference and not be afraid to speak out about bullying and taking care of their environment.

They left with an inspiring mantra, “Be the Change!”
