Sundre waterline replacement project expected to wrap up soon

Repaving to start once lines have been pressure tested with Centre Street South reopening completely afterward

SUNDRE – Provided the weather holds and there are no unanticipated surprises, work on replacing the waterlines in the area near the intersection with Highway 27-Main Avenue and Centre Street South is expected to wrap up by the end of next week (Nov. 1).

Carl McDonnell, project manager, told the Albertan on Wednesday, Oct. 23 that the project is going well with the main line expected to be installed and services connected and subsequent pressure testing completed on Monday, Oct. 28.

“Paving will follow pending weather conditions,” he said. “Everything is on schedule so far.”

The work, which required temporarily closing down access to Centre Street South from the intersection with Highway 27-Main Avenue as well as the business access lane immediately east of the intersection, involved replacing an approximately 120-metre section of pipe made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) that has a life expectancy of approximately 75 years, he said.

Motorists may anticipate a partial reopening of the business access lane east of the intersection to be restored this coming weekend.

“We are hoping to open the road for business access on the weekend and have lane restrictions during paving,” he said.
