Support for the Sundre and Bergen 4-H club's bid to win a Gord Bamford concert in town is growing.
Council recently agreed to provide a letter of support to the club for the “Why 4-H is Great” contest it is participating in.
Council also voted to provide the club with free town advertising, however, Coun. Pat Toone opposed this part of the motion.
Sundre mayor Annette Clews hesitated to support the free advertising as well, but administration members told council that there is room in the donations section of the budget to allow it.
The cost is roughly $300, for 30 days of advertising, said Jacci Hager, the town's manager of community services.
The advertising package includes promotion on the town's community sign, in the town's weekly Sundre Round Up advertisement, in the town's utility stuffer, the website as well as social media sites.
There is more than $3,000 currently available in the donations section of the town's 2013 budget.
Clews said she supports the contest, as she is a former 4-H beef club member herself.
Club members created a video as part of the “Why 4-H is Great” community concert contest and is currently one of the top three finalists.
People are asked to vote for the video on Facebook until Aug. 11 and the finalist will be announced on Aug. 12.
If the club wins, Gord Bamford would be performing in Sundre.
Shelby Jennings was present at the council meeting as a club representative and said there would also be a local Sundre performer to open for Bamford at the show.
“This would not only bring people to our town, but also promote a social event, where local community residents can engage together in a fun, family-friendly environment,” said Jaime Marr, in a report to council.
