A trial date has been set for the last suspect charged following a lengthy police chase last fall that nearly proved fatal for the accused.

The charges against one of the other two suspects — who are all from Red Deer — were recently stayed while another is currently serving out a prison sentence. Click here for that story.

Last October, a stolen vehicle involved in several incidents — including property crimes — spanning across the Sundre, Rocky Mountain House and Sylvan Lake jurisdictions resulted in police defensively discharging firearms and later laying a slew of charges against the two suspects while the third recovered in hospital.

After recovering, Dakota Lee Cornelssen was charged in April with the following: break and enter as well as robbery; two counts of possession of property obtained by crime; flight from police; dangerous driving; and two counts of resisting or wilfully obstructing a peace officer.

Cornelssen’s proceedings in the provincial court in Red Deer have since been adjourned several times. One of the last court dates set for election and plea on June 21 was rescheduled for July 6, when a trial date was set for March 12-13, 2019 in Red Deer provincial court.
