Council voted to hold off paying Sundre's 2013 requisition to the Mountain View Regional Waste Management Commission (MVRWMC) until it receives clarification of the items recently invoiced.
The town received an estimated requisition total for the year from MVRWMC for the 2013 operating budget, but council also voted not to approve any addition to the budget because the invoice is higher than projected, without any clarification.
The total invoice is $10,374.75. The invoice includes $3,066.75 for a corporate review requisition, $1,827 for the operating assessment and $5,481 for the recycling requisition.
ìWe want a statement from them, because normally every year we get a requisition statement,î said Dean Pickering, the town's chief administrative officer.
The statement provides a breakdown of the costs, which is usually sent along with the invoice, said Pickering. It is an annual statement, which is divided into four equal payments and paid quarterly.
ìWe're waiting for the requisition and then we'll pay it, so it's not that we're not going to pay it, because we've got it in the budget,î he said.
However, included in the invoice is the town's portion of a corporate review of MVRWMC, which the town did not budget for, said Pickering.
MVRWMC is billing ìproportionate based on populationî, for this corporate review, he said.
It is currently out as a request for proposal, and the increased and authorized expenses are to be added in the spring adjustment budget, he said.
Options for where this funding will be provided from are increased user fees, general surplus, solid waste reserves or increased taxes.
