SUNDRE – Although specific dollars and cents have yet to be determined, the municipality has taken a step toward formalizing funding disbursed annually to local organizations.

The municipality already allocates funding to a number of community organizations annually. However, there are no formal agreements in place to formalize these arrangements, reads background information in council Dec. 19 meeting agenda.

A letter was sent out to all of the groups that historically have received annual funding informing them that town council has prioritized accountability and transparency to Sundre’s citizens along with an administrative directive to contact the organizations to begin developing agreements.

As per a report to council in the agenda package, administration has been in communication with the organizations and meetings have been scheduled.

While all of the agreements are each expected to slightly differ from one another, depending on the specific group there should be shared elements such as philosophies and reporting expectations.

“It is not the intent at this time to discuss the amount of funding, as that is determined through the budgeting process,” reads part of administration’s background report.

“The intent is to formalize the arrangement through clearly defining responsibilities, timelines, and obligations of each party.”

Council proceeded to carry a motion directing administration to negotiate and conclude funding agreements with each of the groups that have historically received funding from the municipality.
