Upgrades to underground utilities and surface improvements on 6th Street SW are required as part of the Mountain View Seniors' Housing (MVSH) campus of care project.
According to town officials, 260 metres of wastewater mains and 285 metres of water mains need to be installed.
As well, approximately 180 metres of curb and gutter, 175 metres of rolled sidewalk and 1850 square metres of roadway need to be constructed.
There are other miscellaneous items needed, as well as site rehabilitation.
During the council meeting on July 7, council awarded the project to AIC Construction Ltd. for a total tender cost of $606,177.27 – subject to approval to proceed with construction from the MVSH board of directors.
“In May 2014, the budget for this project was estimated at $650,000 with funding coming from MVSH through the land transfer process,” David Hill, the town's director of operational services, reported to council.
“Some support from the infrastructure reserve may be necessary in the short term, however the full value of the project will be replenished by MVSH.”
Major construction for the project is planned for early 2015.
