Volunteers donate quilts to children in need

A group of volunteers in Sundre recently donated 11 handmade quilts to an organization that cares for children who have been sexually abused.

The group of volunteers, known as Nimble Fingers, has roughly 10 to 15 members who have been working on the quilts since the fall.

They donated them to the Little Warriors organization because each child is provided a quilt when they arrive at the camp and they take it with them when they leave.

Little Warriors is a charitable, national organization committed to the awareness, prevention and treatment of child sexual abuse. Camps are set up throughout the country, but the quilts were donated to one that will be opening soon in Edmonton.

The Nimble Fingers also recently donated quilts to Woods Home in Calgary. Along with the quilts, they donated scarves and mittens and other items to the groups.

“It's a good feeling,” said member Yvonne Hopkins.

“And it's going to kids who really need them.”

The Nimble Fingers group gets together every Tuesday at the Sundre legion to craft for four hours, and they are always looking for more members.
