"Originally, we were First Impressions Hair Aesthetics Laser Studio. However, in July 2022, we decided it was time for a fresh start,” Byman explains. “We wanted a different location, new services, and a new look and feel to the salon after the challenges of COVID-19."
Her personal journey played a significant role in shaping the salon's offerings. After resigning from a stressful job in 2016, she focused on her health and appearance. She took courses and discovered her passion for facials and other beauty treatments. This passion led her to expand her skills and create a salon as a place where people could improve their own personal outlook through self-care.
At Canopy Salon, the focus is on providing a comprehensive range of services, catering to all your beauty needs. Haircuts, styling, laser treatments, barbering (including hot shaves, waxing, and camo colour) and two nail techs that take nails from “okay” to amazing, Canopy Salon offers it all. There are over 70 services, and the list continues to grow.
“Wednesdays are walk-in with the barber. No appointments walk-in only!” Byman adds.
Byman emphasizes that they take pride in being inclusive and welcoming.
"Everyone is welcome at Canopy Salon. We have created a safe space where people feel comfortable, including those going through their gender journeys. Discrimination has no place here. We believe in providing an open and judgment-free environment for all."
When clients walk through the doors of Canopy Salon, they immediately feel at ease. The friendly and professional staff ensures that every visit is a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
The success of Canopy Salon can be attributed to several factors. Elaine acknowledges the contribution of her dedicated staff and the loyalty of their clientele. She also credits her own determination and refusal to give up. It is this combination of factors that has allowed Canopy Salon to thrive and grow.
While Canopy Salon has achieved great success, Elaine recognizes that getting the word out about their new location is the greatest challenge. Despite being in their current location for a year at 4303 49th Street in Innisfail, customers have a hard time finding the salon. New and more visible signage is coming, but meanwhile simply put the address into Google Maps and it will direct you right to the front door.
Byman views the salon's ability to weather the challenges posed by COVID-19 as its greatest reward. She expresses gratitude for the ongoing support from the community and is thankful for the opportunity to continue serving the needs of those seeking a fun and enjoyable salon experience.
To highlight their commitment to the community, Canopy Salon supports the Innisfail Food Bank. Clients have the option to donate directly at the salon, Additionally, Canopy Salon strives to be involved in various community events and initiatives, with a particular focus on supporting those in need. Byman ensures continuous community support by engaging in other services, such as being a hub for drop-off/pick up dry cleaning. This allows them to meet and engage with townspeople outside of offering salon services.
Looking ahead, Canopy Salon is exploring new services to further expand its offerings. Byman mentions the possibility of introducing tattoo removal and skin tightening treatments, among other exciting options.
