The dramatic acting workshop originally scheduled for September 20 and 21 has been postponed to Saturday, Oct. 5.
Rather than taking place on a Friday night and a shorter day on Saturday, the revamped version will happen on a Saturday only, with an earlier start of 9 a.m. and continuing until 4:30 p.m. The price of the workshop is $20 including lunch.
Workshop director is retired drama teacher Norma Hoppins. She is looking forward to a blend of beginning and seasoned actors. Activities and drama exercises are promised to be both fun and challenging.
Although the spring Innisfail Town Theatre (ITT) production of Blood Brothers will be directed by Hoppins, the workshop is not a prerequisite for auditions. It may encourage some to try out, but it is offered as an independent learning experience.
The spring play Blood Brothers is a musical, but has been termed more of a “drama, with singing” by the playwright Willy Russell who also wrote Shirley Valentine.
It is the story of twins separated at birth and raised in very different social classes in England. Neither boy knows he is a twin, but their lives become intertwined and things take a tragic turn upon discovery of the dark secret.
The play ran for 24 years in London and played on Broadway with the Cassidy brothers as the twins and Petula Clark as their mother.
Reviewers reported the music is powerful and haunting. Auditions for Blood Brothers take place on Oct. 20 with two time choices: 3 - 5:00 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m. and another choice of Monday, Oct. 21 at 7 – 9 p.m.
ITT is also in production with rehearsals of The Game's Afoot, the pre-Christmas play.
Tickets for this show are on sale in the lobby of the Ol' Moose Hall while the workshop will be in the main hall.
