Alberta Games bid explored

Coun. Danielle Klooster brought up the idea of positioning Penhold as a possible “offshoot” to another nearby community's bid to host the 2016 Alberta Winter Games, during the regularly scheduled council meeting Feb. 11.

Coun. Danielle Klooster brought up the idea of positioning Penhold as a possible “offshoot” to another nearby community's bid to host the 2016 Alberta Winter Games, during the regularly scheduled council meeting Feb. 11.

Mayor Dennis Cooper said he had been thinking the same thing, noting a combined effort from Innisfail, Penhold, Sylvan Lake and Red Deer County would make for a smart pitch.

“We take this document and see if Red Deer County would consider being the lead partner of Innisfail, Sylvan and Penhold,” he said. “Maybe all four of those communities make a bid together.”

A resolution to send a letter to Red Deer County and cc: the other municipalities on the matter was approved unanimously.

Members of Innisfail council said they would be interested in considering the plan, although they noted they would need more information first.
