Kindergarten students at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School are already looking to the future for the town.
Last week the 25 students in Simone Hoffer's class presented representatives from the local ATB Financial branch with a time capsule that will be held at the financial institution for the next 25 years. The time capsule, which was filled by the class with colouring sheets made by the students, will then be opened.
“Most of the students are five right now,” said Hoffer. “They will be 30 years old when the time capsule is opened. They could be residents then.”
The collaboration between the class and ATB is part of the local financial institution's 75th birthday celebrations, which were held across the province on Sept. 27 with more than 300 parties. Innisfail's ATB branch first opened almost 66 years ago in December, 1947.
The time capsule collaboration with the St. Marguerite Bourgeoys School students also included the inclusion of a teddy bear, the mascot and logo for the school, and a certificate honouring the 10th anniversary of the school.
ATB's local birthday celebrations on Sept. 27 also featured a donation of $1,000 to the Innisfail Food Bank, and the planting of a special blue spruce tree, in cooperation with the Town of Innisfail at Centennial Park. The local branch also gave away 75 spruce seedlings to local citizens who attended its birthday celebrations.
Across the province for its birthday celebrations, ATB contributed to 20 recreation facilities and community halls, 17 food banks, and 23 parks and playgrounds.
