Town of Bowden council passed a sanding, plowing and snow removal policy loosely followed since 2007 at its regular meeting on Dec. 12.
“It was policy that has been loosely followed in the past,” said Andy Weiss, interim chief administrative officer.
“Council reviewed the policy and said that although it needs some work, at least if we pass it, we will have a policy that we can give certainty to both staff members and citizens as to what our priorities are.”
Council took the occasion to make some changes to the original sanding, plowing and snow removal map.
“We just re-enforced the policy and made little changes. One block that was a two will be a one,” said Mayor Robb Stuart.
“We just changed a little bit of, within those categories, where we start at and the best route to go.”
Thus, the whole length of 23 Street will have high priority, as well as the portion of Heritage Drive between 17 Avenue and 20 Avenue.
Stuart believes that having a passed policy will help residents and town administration alike.
“If a taxpayer has a problem or any concern, they can phone and we can address it through the policy, rather than saying this year we are doing it this way and next year we would like to do it differently,” he said.
“It is working and we have to abide by the policy. People know what they can expect, too.”
