PENHOLD – Spring is upon us and so is rodeo season.

The fourth annual A Night At The Ranch is set to take place at the Daines Ranch, just north of Innisfail on May 10 and 11.

Kyle Daines and Drew Iwanoczko made a presentation to Penhold council about the upcoming springtime fundraiser, at a recent council meeting on March 11.

“We’re going to have the charity poker tournament on Friday night, May 10, and then the bull riding will start on May 11 (Saturday) at 2 p.m.,” said Daines. “There’s going to be a timed event challenge at 5:30 p.m. and then Jamie Woodfin is going to perform in a concert from 8 p.m. to midnight.”

In addition, the event will feature colt riding, bares 'n’ broncs shootout, mutton busting and steer riding.

Since it began in 2016, A Night At The Ranch has raised more than $35,000 with funds going to the Canadian Sports Medicine Team, the Innisfail Eagles, Ty Pozzobon Foundation and the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation.

“One hundred per cent of our proceeds are going to the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation this year,” said Daines. “(Mental health) is a problem right now and it affects all of us.”

Rick and Cindy More, founders of the Smiles Thru Lindsey Foundation, joined Daines and Iwanoczko at the council meeting and spoke on some of the work they’ve done since the foundation began three and a half years ago.

The Town of Penhold has supported the event in past years, and is once again helping the cause with a $3,000 donation.

Daines said the event has received much support since 2016 and they look forward to another great turnout this May.

“There was about 600 to 700 people out there last year for it and every year it keeps getting bigger,” said Daines.
