INNISFAIL – Grade 12 graduation ceremonies for Chinook’s Edge School Division students have been postponed until at least mid-summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic, says superintendent Kurt Sacher.
“We have postponed our grads until at least August,” Sacher said. “We hope to get information before that to know what it will look like.
"The word we’ve heard from government is that at least by August they will have their re-launch strategy in place and have the guidelines nailed down a little more. Hopefully we will get more information from Alberta Health and Alberta Education so we can know what grad could look like.”
Alberta Education cancelled in-school classes “so we need to have classes open up and then inside of that what are the limitations from Alberta Health even if we are allowed to offer classes and they still have physical distancing in place and limits to the size of groups, for example, that will effect graduation,” he said.
Chinook’s Edge officials hope to make an announcement on graduation plans as soon as possible, he said.
