London-style cabs will be rolling into town later this month as part of an initiative with the Royal Bank of Canada to promote team spirit for the upcoming Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in London this summer.
“We're hearing good things,” said Kari Peperkorn Marlowe, with public affairs for RBC, of the Hometown Champions Cheer Tour that started in Ontario June 28.
The cabs will be stopping in communities across the country until Aug. 12. Each cab has a video camera inside and people are invited to record their own personal cheer or message to Canadian athletes. The videos will be posted to the RBC Hometown Champions web page.
“The Winter Olympics were in Vancouver in 2010 and I think people are still excited,” said Peperkorn Marlowe.
The cabs are expected to make their way to Alberta this week with the first stop in Canmore July 16.
They will arrive in Innisfail July 26 during the Innisfail Farmers' Market from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and will then head over to the Innisfail Aquatic Centre from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Peperkorn Marlowe said plans are being finalized right now for an Olympian to visit in Innisfail as well but at this point hasn't confirmed who the athlete will be.
