Music will fill the air of Centennial Park on the evening of Tuesday, Sept. 17, when the newly formed Innisfail Healthy Living Team hosts its inaugural event, a community jam session.
Local musicians are invited to come and take part from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. "It looks like the Senior Jammers will be joining us," said Ley-Anne Mountain, co-founding member of the Healthy Living Team. "We hope others will bring their instruments and come on out. It will be a giant, informal jam session. Just remember, we don't have any power there so instruments must be acoustic."
The team is partnering with the Town of Innisfail for the event. The Central Alberta Co-op will be donating healthy snacks, and Pure and Simple Water will be supplying drinking water as well. The jam marks the first of what Mountain hopes will be many community-geared activities the Healthy Living Team would like to promote or organize.
"Our goal is to bring a sense of community back into the community. We really want to see people start building relationships again with their neighbours and fellow residents."
The group began when Patci Hopkins with Alberta Health Services and the Healthy Living Coalition approached Mountain with the idea of creating a team that involved concerned citizens as well as members from different organizations with interests in community health and well-being. Innisfail's Healthy Living Team is one of several teams that exist in a variety of communities across Central Alberta. Its vision is Innisfail as a supportive community and its mission is to help people develop healthy, positive relationships. There are several enthusiastic people and organizations already involved with the team, but they welcome new members, and are willing to send information to residents interested in keeping abreast of the group's activities. "Anyone wanting more information can contact me at 403-350-4426 or via email at [email protected]," said Mountain.
In the meantime, the community jam at Centennial Park is a great kickoff for the team, and for the community as a whole. Anyone wishing to participate or enjoy some great music is invited to come down to the park tonight beginning at 6:30 p.m. "Come and meet your Innisfail neighbours," said Mountain. "It should be a whole lot of fun."
