INNISFAIL - A sleeping man with a shotgun beside him who was found by Mounties inside a vehicle stuck in a ditch is now facing more than three dozen criminal charges.
Innisfail RCMP Sgt. Lori Eiler said Innisfail RCMP responded on March 13 to a report of a suspicious vehicle stuck in the ditch at Twp. Rd. 352 and Rge. Rd. 281 in Red Deer County.
Eiler said RCMP approached the vehicle and observed a male sleeping in the driver's seat and a shotgun next to him.
She said RCMP noted the plate on the vehicle was reported stolen. Police attempted to arrest the driver who then resisted, said Eiler, adding there were no serious injuries to anyone as a result of the completed arrest by RCMP. She added the RCMP investigation revealed the vehicle was also stolen.
"As always we appreciate the tips we receive from the community. In this case we did receive a tip of a suspicious vehicle and as a result of that we were able to arrest and charge an individual and help keep our streets safer," said Eiler.
Bryan Lawrence Moffitt, 22, of Red Deer County, was charged with 37 Criminal Code offences, including three charges of assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, two charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm, six counts of possession of a weapon contrary to a court order, 10 charges of failing to comply with an undertaking, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order, prohibited operation of a motor vehicle, driving an uninsured motor vehicle, and driving an unregistered motor vehicle.
