INNISFAIL – Spending time with family is a great way to beat the winter blues.
Families in Innisfail and the area will be doing just that on Family Day, Feb. 18.
The Town of Innisfail is once again teaming up with the Innisfail Kinsmen Club to welcome families out for a fun-filled day.
“Numbers were really strong last year. It was a little colder but people still came out and enjoyed (themselves),” said Kane Williams, recreation program coordinator with the town.
“We’re trying to celebrate all the different activities there are in Innisfail.”
Family Day kicks off in the morning with family curling at the Innisfail Curling Club from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by outdoor family skating and activities (weather permitting) at the Innisfail Arena from 12 to 3 p.m. Activities will include hayrides, a fire truck display and an outdoor barbecue presented by the Innisfail Kinsmen Club.
“After all of that you can go and warm up and join some friends and family down at the aquatic centre,” he said.
The final Family Day activity will take place at the Innisfail Aquatic Centre with the family swim from 2 to 4 p.m.
The Kinsmen Club will be collecting cash donations at the barbecue for a cystic fibrosis charity and the aquatic centre will be accepting cash and non-perishable food items for the Innisfail and District Food Bank, for admission to the family swim.
Williams said there may be one more activity added to the Family Day event, but that won’t be confirmed until later in the week.
“It’s a total community event,” said Williams. “There’s different organizations coming together to make it a great day.”
The Town of Penhold is holding its annual Winterfest on Family Day weekend, with activities taking place at the Penhold Regional Multiplex on Feb. 17, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Activities include skating, face painting, bouncy castles, firepit with hotdogs, marshmallows, sleigh rides and crafts.
