Three teen motor vehicle passengers sustained minor injuries when their vehicle “fishtailed” off a service road and over an embankment at Gleniffer Lake.

Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said police were called shortly after 7 p.m. on Aug. 16 to attend the accident.

He said the vehicle had five teen occupants who were leaving Gleniffer Lake on the service road. Morrish said the 17-year-old female driver lost control of the vehicle and it “fishtailed” over an embankment.

The vehicle came to rest on its side on rocks about 15 metres from the water, said Morrish.

He said three passengers sustained minor injuries and were transported by ground ambulance to Innisfail Health Centre.

Morrish said the driver had consumed alcohol before the accident but was not impaired. However, she was under the provincial graduated licence program and received a 30-day suspension from driving and her vehicle was seized for seven days.

Man killed in two-vehicle crash

A motorcycle driver was killed on Aug. 21 when he collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 781 and Highway 592.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Innisfail RCMP was dispatched to the collision, along with emergency medical personnel and RCMP officers from both the Sylvan Lake Detachment and Innisfail Integrated Traffic Services.

RCMP said the collision involved a 2006 Dodge Caravan and a motorcycle. The 17-year-old female driver and lone occupant of the minivan was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 40-year-old male who was driving the motorcycle died at the scene.

At the time of the collision the weather was clear and the traffic was light, said RCMP. The matter is still under investigation by the Innisfail RCMP but police are saying that neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the collision.

Cops nab man wanted in Innisfail

A Sylvan Lake man, wanted on warrants in Innisfail, faces numerous Criminal Code charges following a short police pursuit in the Whitecourt area.

At about 11:25 p.m. on Aug. 19 Whitecourt RCMP and Alberta Sheriff Integrated Traffic Unit attempted to stop a vehicle west of Whitecourt on Highway 43. The vehicle, a 2001 Jaguar, did not stop for police and a short pursuit followed.

RCMP said the fleeing vehicle engaged in speeds in excess of 230 km/h. At some point the Jaguar left the road and went down a sharp incline getting stuck at the end of a road off Highway 32.

The male driver and only occupant of the vehicle fled by foot into the forest and the RCMP Police Service Dog was dispatched to the area. The male was subsequently located about five hours later. He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries due to the “elements” and not as a result of his encounter with the police dog, said RCMP.

A search of the vehicle uncovered 434 grams of cocaine, 639 grams of methamphetamine, one gram of heroin as well as paraphernalia for the use and the traffic of drugs, said RCMP. As well, a loaded 45-calibre handgun was found along with the drugs and a several Oxycodone pills.

The male driver, Brian Buxton of Sylvan Lake, faces numerous Criminal Code charges, including dangerous driving, possession of controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a stolen firearm, unsafe storage of firearm.

RCMP said Buxton is also wanted on a number of warrants from Innisfail, Blackfalds, Red Deer and British Columbia. RCMP said he is in custody and will appear in Whitecourt provincial court on Aug. 27.
