The annual Terry Fox Run will take place this Friday, Sept. 14.
“Fundraising is underway,” said community committee chairperson Bill Hoppins. He reminded donors that if they're looking to give, heading into the Scotiabank is the best way. Scotiabank is matching donations up to a total of $5,000.
This year, the community run is taking place at the same time as the local schools'. He said in an earlier interview the idea of having one community, one run came from this year's Terry Fox Run theme – working together to outrun cancer.
The run is being hosted at École Innisfail Middle School. Principal Jay Steeves said all the Innisfail schools are coming out to be part of the run.
“It didn't make any sense (to have two runs),” he said. “This way creates a full community-wide effort.”
He said there will be three different run tracks – a kilometre loop for the younger students, the perimeter of the school for the older students and a five-kilometre loop that goes through town for adults and older students who are up to the challenge.
Registration for the run starts at 12:30 p.m. on Sept. 14. The run starts at 1 p.m. at the middle school.
