Ghosts, goblins and a scary looking fortune teller are about to unveil themselves at the Innisfail & District Historical Village.

On October 25 and 26, between the haunting twilight and evening hours of 6 and 9 p.m., the historical village is hosting its first-ever Halloween at the Village.

“This is intended to extend our season and connect to the community,” said Anna Lenters, vice-president of the village's board of directors. “We want people to view this as a safe place to bring their children for an evening event. We hope people will have a spook-tacular time.”

Lenters said the idea came from her past experience working at Calgary's Heritage Park After Dark event.

“That was big. This is a baby version of that,” said Lenters.

She said the event would feature witches, pirates and Zelda the fortune teller. The village will be appropriately adorned with pumpkins, cornstalks, and straw bales, with the idea of providing excellent photo opportunities for families. And there will even be a spooky-looking coffin on display, created for the village by a work team of inmates from the Bowden Institution.

Admission to the event for adults is $5 and $3 for kids. Families will be charged a flat rate of $15. Event organizers will install a tent at the Rotary shelter and show horror movie clips, including the 1935 Boris Karloff classic Bride of Frankenstein and The Mummy Returns.

Food can also be purchased during the event, with the village selling hotdogs, potato chips and apple juice for $3 as well as hot chocolate and pop for $1.
