Innisfail RCMP is probing a brazen and massive overnight $18,000 theft at the local Home Hardware store.

Local police received a call at 8:10 a.m. on Sept. 9 of a break-in at the store, said Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish.

He said responding officers at the scene were shown that a chain to the store's back gate was broken along with Plexiglas to the garden centre.

Morrish said the main store itself was not broken into as it was determined the burglars' target was the garden centre.

He said the thief or thieves then used a flatbed trailer with removable side walls and loaded it up with $18,000 of merchandise.

Morrish said the stolen items included outdoor fireplaces, water heaters, lawn trimming and leaf blowing equipment, boxes of weed killers, lawn chairs, a bathtub and an Outcast Wave 9 Pontoon Boat.

“They took a ton of stuff,” said Morrish, adding RCMP has not yet determined the exact time the thieves broke into the garden centre. “We didn't respond to an alarm. It was just overnight.”

Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to contact Innisfail RCMP at 403-227-3342 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
