INNISFAIL – RCMP are continuing its investigation into a deadly highway collision that claimed the life of a local man.
At about 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 26 emergency responders received a call there was a serious motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Highway 54 and Twp. Rd. 360, a kilometre north of the northern boundary of the town.
RCMP Cpl. Ronald Bumbry said a preliminary investigation revealed the car was travelling westbound on Twp. Rd. 360 when a collision occurred with a pole.
The lone occupant, a 54-year-old male driver from Innisfail, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Bumbry said weather conditions at the time of the crash were reported as clear.
“There were not any issues there but I do not know what the road conditions were. We are continuing to investigate all causes and what may have contributed to the collision,” said Bumbry, adding police do not have any indication yet whether alcohol or drugs was a contributing factor. He added that with any type of collision when there is a fatality police would be looking at autopsy and toxicology results, which could take up to two months to complete.
“With this one there are no other vehicles involved, and so we are looking at all factors contributing to the collision itself,” he said.
Bumbry said Innisfail RCMP continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
He said the name of the deceased will not be released and no further updates are anticipated.
