A drug problem for a local young woman has turned three times unlucky.
On Oct. 3, 20-year-old Randi Rae-Ann Beagle of Innisfail, was sentenced to six months in jail by a Red Deer provincial court judge after pleading guilty to a series of drug charges stemming from three separate busts within four months of each other earlier this year.
Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said Beagle, who pleaded guilty to the charges, was also placed on 18 months probation.
Morrish said the first bust occurred last May when Beagle was at a traffic stop and found to be in possession of 126 grams of marijuana along with more than $1,000 in cash.
Three months later in August, a search warrant that was executed on Beagle's residence resulted in the seizure of an undisclosed amount of marijuana, along with other illegal drugs and $350 cash.
The third seizure was a result of another traffic stop on Sept. 25. Morrish said the vehicle Beagle was driving was found to have a small quantity of marijuana located inside an ashtray.
He said these charges led to Beagle being remanded to custody as she had breached her previous release conditions.
Meanwhile, local Mounties busted a 16-year-old girl shortly after 5 p.m. on Oct. 15 after she was found to be in possession of marijuana by Innisfail community peace officers.
Morrish said the teen was downtown showing the drugs to other youths who were in the area.
When RCMP located the girl she was discovered to be in possession of marijuana along with a small electronic scale.
Morrish said the teen was lodged in cells, charged with possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and released to the custody of her mother.
She is scheduled to attend provincial court in Red Deer on Nov. 14.
Police nab fugitive
A Lloydminster man, wanted for violating probation from a serious domestic assault conviction and imprisonment, was caught by Innisfail RCMP last week after being stopped by local community peace officers for driving a vehicle with expired licence plates.
Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said Bradley Dale Townsend, 25, was stopped by community peace officers at the intersection of Woodland Road and Highway 54 at about 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 16.
Morrish said RCMP were called by the peace officers after Townsend provided a false name and claimed to not have identification.
He said Townsend's vehicle was later searched and police found a small quantity of cocaine and digital scales.
Morrish said Mounties ultimately determined that Townsend was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating his parole conditions. He had been incarcerated for a serious domestic violence offence that involved a weapon.
Townsend is now facing a new charge of possessing cocaine for the purpose of trafficking as well as several provincial traffic offences, including driving a vehicle without insurance and not having proper registration.
Pedestrian struck by car
Innisfail RCMP continues its investigation into a downtown single motor vehicle accident that injured a pedestrian.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on Oct. 14, a 64-year-old woman was walking eastbound on 50 Street when she was hit by a 2007 white Dodge Ram, said Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish.
He said the woman sustained arm and head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Innisfail Health Centre for treatment.
Morrish said charges have not yet been laid and the RCMP investigation is continuing.
Cops probe commercial break and enter
Police are seeking the public's assistance to determine who is responsible for a break and enter and theft at All-Vac Sales Service & Repair.
Innisfail RCMP Cpl. Don Morrish said police received a call at 5 p.m. on Oct. 12 that the business had been burglarized. He said RCMP believes the break-in occurred sometime between 5 p.m. on Oct. 11 and 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 12.
Morrish said the point of entry for the burglars was the west-side door of the business.
He said the culprits went through the drawers and file cabinets and made off with a small amount of cash.
