Pet lovers take heed, the time to get Fluffy or Fido properly tagged is nigh.
Innisfail residents will receive a $10 discount if dog or cat licences are purchased by Jan. 31.
In December and January spayed or neutered cats can be registered for $20, or $40 if the animals are not spayed or neutered.
After Jan. 31 the fee jumps to $30 for spayed or neutered pets and $50 for non-spayed or neutered pets.
Pet licences are available from the town office, and must be renewed each year.
In Penhold dog tags are available through the town office for $12 and must be updated by Jan. 31.
There's no cat bylaw in Penhold so no licence is necessary, but town officials say keeping animals tagged can help save their lives.
“If any animals are outside it's smart to have some sort of identification no matter what the animal,” said Jim deBoon, an animal control officer for Penhold who works for Klassic Kennels. “If the animal wanders off people will know where to take it. Without identification prognosis for a positive outcome drops off.”
