Information needed for animal cruelty case
Innisfail RCMP are asking for public assistance after someone shot a cat with a pellet.
According to a press release from the RCMP, the cat was found sometime between 10 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 27 near the 5200 block of 40 St. It appears someone had shot the cat with a BB gun.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Innisfail RCMP at 40.-227-3342 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Break-in bonanza
Several break-ins were discovered or reported between Jan. 20 and Jan. 26.
On Jan. 24 a compound near Pine Lake was broken into but nothing was reported taken. Cpl. A.J. Mand said the owners knew there'd been a break-in because "all the stuff was all over."
At 3:50 a.m. on the same day patrolling officers spotted open gates on 42 Street. They discovered someone had tried to steal a trailer with snowmobiles in the back but were foiled, likely by a lock.
Also on Jan. 24 it was found 12 residences at Glennifer Lake Resort had been broken into. Mand said the report came in at 11:20 a.m. but the break-ins had probably occurred before that. They are unsure what, if anything, has been taken. The RCMP is working to contact the homeowners as it was mostly summer residences affected, said Mand.
Back to the crime scene
On Jan. 24 at 2:50 a.m. the liquor store in The Penholder was broken into, setting off the alarm. Two bottles of alcohol were taken.
One male was charged after he returned the next day and stole another bottle of liquor. That time he was caught.
The thieves were caught on video. Mand said there is one male from Penhold and a man and women from Red Deer. There are warrants out for the two who didn't go back for more.
Mischief aplenty
Several mischief calls came in over the week. The first was on Jan. 21 when a lock on a rural property was cut off with a cutting torch, though nothing was reported missing.
On Jan. 22 a truck was damaged on 50 Avenue after someone tried to break in and failed.
Two broken windows were called in on Jan. 24. A window at the old library was broken though it is not known what was used to smash the glass.
A rock was used to break a window at the Dr. George/Kemp House. Mand said while it was reported on Jan. 24 the break probably happened Jan. 15-16.
Frozen food to go
Two males in a black jeep were reported stealing food out of a freezer on 51A Avenue sometime Jan. 24. The freezer was being kept in a carport. No further information was provided.
Impaired arrests
On Jan. 22 an officer patrolling on Highway 2A noticed a vehicle in the ditch going in circles. The driver, a woman from Olds, was tested for impaired driving and blew over the legal limit. She was charged with impaired driving.
On Jan. 25 a driver in Penhold was charged with impaired driving after the driver of a truck collided with a parked car on Robinson Avenue.
Vehicles stolen
A vehicle was taken overnight from where it was parked on 41 Street. The incident was reported on Jan. 22. The vehicle taken was a 1989 Chevy GMC 400 truck and is green and white. The truck has not yet been recovered.
On Jan. 24 in the early morning a Saturn was stolen from Penhold. No further details were provided.
Smoke break
A man stole two packs of cigarettes from the Express 24 in Penhold at around 6 a.m. on Jan. 24.
Mand said the man was caught on video.
"We might know who he is," he said.
Computer scams
A caller on Jan. 26 told the Innisfail Province a popular scam where someone claiming to be from Microsoft attempts to gain access to computers has been affecting people around town.
While Mand had not heard of the specific scam, he said people can alert the RCMP if they receive a suspicious call or check "scam busters" on the Internet for more information.
Penhold office open
The Innisfail RCMP have opened up an office in Penhold. Mand said now people can attend at that office to get security clearances and give witness statements.
The office is located on the second floor of the Penhold Regional Multiplex in the town offices.
Officers working there will be from the Innisfail detachment.
"We'll take turns," Mand said.
There are no set hours for the office yet but eventually there will be.
"Right now, as we need it," Mand said.
