Police amp up presence
Local RCMP announced they plan to increase vigilance against road offences over an upcoming month-and-a-half blitz.
ìWe will do enhanced provincial traffic enforcement over the next six weeks,î Matechuk said. ìWe'll have extra shifts out there.î
Police will be watching for red light runners, speeders, seatbelt neglecters and more.
ìIt's important to enhance the safety of our roads,î he said.
Post office broken into
Mailboxes were entered and damaged both inside and outside the Penhold post office sometime during the night of Feb. 9. Police have yet to receive confirmation of anything stolen.
Tire slashed
During the night of Feb. 9 tires were slashed along 50 Avenue in Innisfail. Two tires were slashed on the truck of the victim who reported the crime. The neigbour to the west also had one tire slashed on their vehicle.
Stealing Cosmo
A 28-year-old lady was charged after the theft of a number of grocery items from Innisfail Shopper's Drug Mart just before 6 p.m. on Feb. 8. The haul included cheesecake, French vanilla coffee flavouring, Cosmopolitan magazine and US Weekly, among other selections.
Dentures gone
On Feb. 7 an Innisfail man reported his ex-girlfriend had stolen his dentures. The theft had taken place five to six days previous, he said. He was not seeking to press charges.
Cellphone taken
A man said a woman took off with his cellphone and $320 worth of cash. The incident was reported at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. The man said he did not recognize the woman.
Copper wire stolen
On Feb. 11, 200 feet of copper wire worth about $5,000 was stolen from a Red Deer County oil lease site.
ìWe're starting to see lots of copper wire thefts,î said Staff Sgt. Chris Matechuk, of the Innisfail RCMP detachment. ìIt's becoming quite common.î
On Feb. 9 between $2,500 and $4,000 worth of copper wire was reported stolen from a rural location near Pine Lake.
Play it again, again
At 7:27 a.m. on Feb. 12, RCMP officers found items on Highway 42 east of the QEII Highway in the south ditch. Items included hockey equipment and chairs in boxes. Later that day police connected the dots to a break and enter at Play it Again Sports in Red Deer.
