Weather contributed to accidents
Icy conditions on roads in the area put many drivers and passengers in the region into situations they would probably have preferred to avoid this week. In total 17 accidents – but no injuries – were reported in the Innisfail RCMP detachment area.
“This whole week has been really bad for collisions,” said Cpl. Jeff Hildebrandt, “It's always weather related.”
Vehicle stolen
A 1995 Dodge Caravan was reported stolen from in front of a room at the Bluebird Motel Feb. 24. The minivan was maroon and adorned with Pokemon stickers.
Crimes change with seasons
Police are warning that with the changing seasons comes an uptick in crime. Since many crimes are opportunistic in nature, as weather improves these activities tend to pick up, Hildebrandt said.
“We request the public be vigilant,” he said. “Take reasonable precautions.”
Protect against identity theft
On Feb. 25 an Innisfail resident reported private security information had been used to set up two telecommunications accounts in his name. The man said he had never had an account with that provider previously.
Police urge the public to be careful with personal information and suggest doing a credit check on yourself at your local bank or with a credit agency to verify the integrity of your own identity.
“That can adversely affect your credit rating,” Hildebrandt said. “Always keep your PIN numbers a secret.”
