INNISFAIL - Local firefighters, with assistance from an Elnora crew, battled a structure fire on a farm east of town for more than three hours on April 8.
Gary Leith, chief of the Innisfail Fire Department, said when firefighters arrived at the farm, located near the intersection of Rge. Rd. 253 and Hwy. 590, the blaze had engulfed several structures, as well as property, including a workshop, a fifth-wheel trailer, a tractor and a bailer.
Leith said the fire also spread to corrals at the rear of the shop causing heat damage to the exterior of the property’s residence.
He said the fire was brought under control with no injuries reported. Damage is estimated to be more than $200,000, said Leith.
He said a total of nine Innisfail and four Elnora firefighters responded to the fire. He said three engines and three water tank trucks were utilized to put the blaze out.
Leith said the cause of the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation continues.
