Work is set to begin soon on Phase 2 of the downtown revitalization project.
The work is set to begin May 6 along 50th Street from 47th Avenue through 49th Avenue. Part of the work will include the installation of a median and traffic post on the west side of the 49th Avenue and 50th Street intersection.
An open house will take place this Wednesday at the Library Learning Centre where people can review plans for this phase of the project. Director of operational services Barry Baker said there will be information on proposed traffic detours at the open house.
“Really it's about upgrading our infrastructure, which has aged, as well as giving the downtown a real facelift,” Baker said of the project.
Phase 1 of the downtown revitalization was completed last year. A third phase will take place in 2014. Town council, back in September, voted against a proposal that would have seen both the second and third phases of the project completed within 122 days this summer.
Work on Phase 2 is scheduled to wind up by the end of August.
