INNISFAIL – First there was the royal wedding in 2018 and now the royal birth of 2019.

The Innisfail and District Historical Village is inviting the public to celebrate the royal birth with A Royal Baby Tea from 2 to 4 p.m. on May 11.

“We’re having a Royal Baby Tea to celebrate the arrival of a new royal baby,” said Anna Lenters, board president for the historical village.

The royal baby is the first child for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

“The baby could be a few weeks old (when we have our Royal Baby Tea),” said Lenters. “May 12 is Mother’s Day, so it’s a nice way to (take mom out) for an event like this.”

Lenters said guests and visitors to the Royal Baby Tea can expect much of the same as with the Royal Wedding Tea in May 2018.

“It will be similar in nature. There will be a lovely spread of small sandwiches, sweets and a wide range of goodies, and tea and coffee if you choose,” she added.  “We encourage you to get into the spirit (of the royal birth) and have fun. Hats and gloves are optional.”

As the birth draws near, there has been much talk and excitement about the royal baby's sex, name and birth location.

“Ladies around town are talking about it,” said Lenters. "Last year, we had a film of the royal wedding running (during the event). This year, we’re going to have a (baby) display. We have a number of things in our collection that are related to generations of royals and their births and how their births were celebrated,” she added, noting the museum will also display items from Innisfail and the area.

“We’ll have books, christening gowns, baby paraphernalia that go back to the turn of the century that are part of our collection," said Lenters.

Tickets for the event are $14 and are available by calling 403-227-2906.
