A STARS air ambulance made a landing at Bowden Grandview School last Wednesday to make a routine transfer of a patient.

Cameron Heke, a senior public relations advisor with STARS, said the helicopter was sent out at 12:08 p.m. from Calgary to transfer a male patient from Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre to the Peter Lougheed Hospital in Calgary. Because of poor weather at the time, STARS could not land at the hospital in Red Deer to conduct the pick-up so a ground ambulance took the patient to Bowden, the nearest area that was clear enough for STARS to land. BGS is the only space in Bowden that can accommodate a helicopter, so the transfer was made there.

STARS landed in Bowden at 12:46 p.m. where it met the ground ambulance. Because it was a routine hospital transfer, Heke could not provide further details about the patient.
