For the second year running, Innisfail Scotiabank is teaming up with École Innisfail Middle School for the Terry Fox Run.

This year, similar to last year, Scotiabank will be pairing up with Ecole Innisfail Middle School and the four other local schools, to put on one single run, different from other years, when there were two separate runs, one for the schools and one for the general public.

“This year, everyone is running together,” said Bryn Chambers, branch manager at Scotiabank, who is also on the Terry Fox Run Committee.

He added that the theme would be similar to last year's -- working together to outrun cancer -- a main reason behind the decision to combine the public run with the schools'.

The event will be held on Sept. 26 at École Innisfail Middle School, with a start time of 1 p.m. People will be able to register at the run.

Chambers explained that although the turnout has been lower since changing the run to a weekday to have it in conjunction with the five local schools, it is well worth it.

“It's all about getting together for a good cause,” he said. “It's important for us to team up with the schools and do this together.”

Chambers explained that Scotiabank is helping the fundraising efforts by committing to matching the first $5,000 raised in pledges at the bank. People who wish to get their donations doubled need to submit the pledge at the bank.

Scotiabank also held a bake sale on Aug. 30 for the Terry Fox Run.

Stephanie Lessner, a Scotiabank employee, was one of several people running the sale and said they raised just under $600 from it, which will be matched by Scotiabank and will go fully towards the run.

Terry Welsh, director, recreation parks and culture, said that he is pleased the community is coming together for the Terry Fox Run.

“What these folks are doing is not only good for the community but good for a bigger cause,” said Welsh. “It's the type of event you want to support. You're supporting your community. “

There is no entry fee or minimum donation to participate in the run. The Terry Fox Run helps raise money each year for cancer research.
