The Town of Innisfail is seeking a firm to provide long-term engineering consulting services and a Request For Proposal was recently approved unanimously by council Nov. 13.
The contract would be a three-year term with the option of a two-year extension.
“I think it gives us continuity in the flow of our developments,” said Coun. Brian Spiller, about the benefits of working closely with one engineering company for an extended period of time. “They get to know your community, so you're saving time and money.”
Duties of the winning firm would include advisory and consulting services, design services, construction and contract administration services, field services, post-construction services, preparing bills of materials and measuring quantities of work performed. The company would not be allowed to undertake private development in the town, to avoid conflict of interest.
“There's always stuff going on,” said Coun. Heather Taylor. “There's always stuff you need their expertise on.”
The RFP is not a tender call, and the town would negotiate with the selected firm.
Tagish Engineering will continue to handle the downtown revitalization project.
