The community of Innisfail is coming together to host a Christmas supper for those less fortunate on Dec. 15 .
The supper, spearheaded by the Innisfail Masonic Lodge #8, is to be held at the Innisfail United Church starting at 5:30 p.m.
Jim Humble, one of the organizers, said they're hoping prospective attendees will RSVP to 403-227-6033 by Dec. 11 so there's an idea of how many to cook for.
Meanwhile, volunteers and donations have been coming from all over town to help put the event on.
Humble said there will be a Santa Claus and pictures for kids, someone doing balloon animals, a seniors' band adding their musical talents to the occasion and more.
“These are guys who are just volunteering their time,” he said.
Local businesses are providing supplies, from foodstuffs to preparing gift bags to printing of invitations that are being handed out around town.
Other individuals are coming forward to do any task needed, including the dishes.
A cook and students from a local school will be making the meal.
“We want it to be successful,” Humble said.
Right now there's about 20 people confirmed to attend the supper as guests, and Humble's hoping for more.
Either way, however, the dinner will go on and leftovers will go to Loaves and Fishes Benevolent Society in Red Deer.
“I think Innisfail is a great community for volunteers,” he said. “They're caring about those less fortunate in the town.”
