Seventy meals were served up to participants in the first annual Christmas supper put on by the Innisfail Masonic Lodge #8 on Dec. 15.
The dinner, held at the United Church, discreetly invited those in need in the community to come take part in the meal.
Jim Humble, one of the organizers, said between the volunteers and the excellent food prepared by Cliff Oak, the chef at Innisfail Jr./Sr. High, the event was a success.
“The meal was just fabulous,” Humble said. “We're hoping to do it again.”
He said about 30 volunteers assisted with the dinner, some even arriving early in the afternoon to start peeling potatoes and carrots for dinner.
“They helped serve and clean up,” he said.
In addition to the food, someone was on hand doing balloon animals and a photographer snapped pictures of attendees with Santa.
“We had kids and seniors sitting on Santa's knee,” he said.
Gift bags for guests were put together by Complete Catering, and the Innisfail Volunteer Fire Department sent volunteers as did other organizations. Many individuals, even a couple of young kids, also gave their efforts.
“They did an outstanding job,” Humble said of the volunteer efforts.
