Organizers for the third annual Weekend of Wheels this past weekend are hailing it as a huge success, with it featuring new and old events for Innisfailians and guests from all over Central Alberta.
The event had the popular show and shine on Sept 14 with dozens of cars for people to see and admire, as well as four bouncy houses and food vendors.
The popular 100-foot shootout took place on Sept. 15, with cars racing down a 100-foot track.
New to these year's Weekend of Wheels was the People's Choice Award, which gave the community an opportunity to vote and pick their favourite car entry, with a $1 charge per vote.
All money raised went to the Innisfail Seniors Centre.
Four local real estate companies in Innisfail sponsored Weekend of Wheels, and in doing so, brought four bouncy houses to the weekend event.
Re/Max Sun Country Realty, Royal LePage Weber, Sundance Realty Management and Century 21-Your Realty agreed to donate money to rent four bounce houses from Red Deer for the event.
Debra Stoski, organizer of Weekend of Wheels, said that with all the hard work and effort put forth to make the event possible, the Weekend of Wheels was awesome.
“It was great,” said Stoski.
“Tons of people, tons of cars, and beautiful weather,” she added.
She said the shootout went off without a snag and the racers had multiple runs on the track, which made both the drivers and the audience happy.
She also said she couldn't have asked for better weather for the event.
“It was beautiful weather which makes a difference for an outside event,” she said.
“All in all, it was awesome. Weekend of Wheels isn't just for people who love cars, but it's for everyone.”
Stoski said she was especially appreciative of the numerous volunteers who helped make Weekend of Wheels possible, including Tammy Smith, JR White, Dawn Desmarais, Catherine McMurray, Liz Bennett and Carol Smith.
