A 19-year-old Crossfield woman died after succumbing to injuries she received in an accident on Highway 42 Nov. 3.
The woman had been transported to Foothills Medical Centre after being removed from her white Oldsmobile SUV with the Jaws of Life after a collision with a flatbed pickup truck occurred, according to an RCMP press release. She passed away just before 6 p.m. on Nov. 4.
Innisfail RCMP and Red Deer County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the accident, about five miles east from the Highway 2 intersection, at 7:36 p.m. on Nov. 3.
The police said the woman had pulled out to pass when she struck the truck.
“The driver of the pickup truck was able to swerve out of the way to avoid a direct head-on collision,” said the press release.
Both vehicles were extensively damaged but the three occupants of the truck were not injured, police said. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the accident.
Cpl. A.J. Mand said Monday it was “most likely” heavy fog played a part in the accident.
“Visibility was poor,” he said. “The road itself was fine.”
The highway was closed for about two hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
