Council OK's chamber cash

Mountain View County councillors have approved a one-time $10,000 donation to the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce in support of the chamber's visitor information centre (VIC).

Mountain View County councillors have approved a one-time $10,000 donation to the Sundre and District Chamber of Commerce in support of the chamber's visitor information centre (VIC).

Chamber officials made the request during the April 3 policies and priorities committee meeting. Councillors approved the donation at the April 10 council meeting.

The centre provides information to tourists on recreation and business opportunities in the Sundre area, including in the surrounding MVC areas.

The Town of Sundre is providing $10,000 to support the centre, located on Highway 27 in Sundre, in 2013, council heard.

Reeve Bruce Beattie said the centre benefits county businesses by promoting visitor traffic.

During his April 3 appearance before council, chamber president Marty Mennear said, “Our recreational tourism in the area benefits the town, but also the businesses around Sundre, like the golf courses, the bed and breakfasts, the campgrounds, whitewater rafting companies, etc.”
