A multi-stakeholder tabletop mock exercise conducted April 18 at the Mountain View County office and in Cremona was a success, councillors heard last week.

The one-day exercise involved a wildfire scenario in the Water Valley area, Ryan Morrison, MVC director of emergency management, said during last week's policies and priorities committee meeting.

“Overall, it was a success,” said Morrison.

The exercise involved MVC councillors, county staff, representatives from various government agencies, including Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, and others.

Emergency operations centres were set up in the county office and in Cremona, with participants in contact through Internet, radios and telephone.

Deputy Reeve Patricia McKean, who took part in the exercise, commended all participants for their efforts.

“I was tremendously impressed,” said McKean.

The county is mandated by the provincial government to hold mock emergency exercises to ensure response procedures are working in the event of a real-life emergency.
