Mountain View County council has agreed to continue supporting the Olds-Didsbury-Sundre Rural Crime Watch Association.Association spokersperson Dave Sharek appeared before council on Nov. 7, telling councillors that the group has had success in helping police identify suspicious person and vehicles“We are the eyes and ears of the county,” he said.Councillor Al Kemmere commended the organization's members for their efforts over the past year and encouraged them to continue the work.“I think it is a great initiative,” said Kemmere.Councillors passed a motion recommending that council approve $2,810 in funding for the association for 2013, the same amount as contributed in 2012.Sharek said he was pleased with the proposed donation.Division 6 councillor Paddy Munro did not attend last week's meeting.Council will discuss health donationFollowing a presentation by member of the David Thompson Health Trust at the Nov. 7 meeting, councillors plan to hold detailed discussions on how the county could help fund health care projects in the region.DTHT spokesperson Larry Sarrasin told council that there are many projects in the area that could use cash, including for expanded parking at the Olds hospital and for a new helipad in Didsbury.Councillor Kemmere put forward a motion that council discuss health funding at an upcoming policies and priorities committee meeting. All councillors voted for the motion.Council approves waste commission business planCouncillors passed a motion at a Nov. 7 special council meeting to receive the South Red Deer River Regional Wastewater Commission's 2013-2015 governance and administration operating budget for information.The commission is overseeing the construction of a wastewater transmission line west of the QEII and running between Red Deer and Olds.Commission CAO Dale Withage appeared before council to present the operating budget and the 2013-2017 business plan.The commission is comprised of six municipalities: Olds, Innisfail, Red Deer County, Mountain View County, Penhold and Bowden.Under the 2013-2015 budget, MVC will contribute 15 per cent of the total budget over the three-year period: $17,535 in 2013, $18,120 in 2014 and $14,340 in 2015.Because the commission has requisitioning powers, the member municipalities do not approve the budget but only receive it for information.Councillors also passed a motion approving the commission's 2012-2017 business plan.
