A 51-year-old man charged after RCMP found hundreds of marijuana plants growing on Crown land outside Sundre in June 2011 will spend the next nine months under 24-hour house arrest.

A 51-year-old man charged after RCMP found hundreds of marijuana plants growing on Crown land outside Sundre in June 2011 will spend the next nine months under 24-hour house arrest.The accused pleaded guilty earlier to a charge of production of a controlled substance. He was sentenced by Judge P. McIlhargey in Didsbury provincial court last Monday.Responding to a public call that there were suspicious buildings set up in a heavily wooded area northwest of Sundre, police found a shed containing about 400 marijuana plants, as well as equipment used to grow the plants during a raid on June 29, 2011, court heard.The accused was living at the site and was arrested nearby on the same day.The accused previously had a permit to grow marijuana for personal medical use, but had let that permit expire, court heard.The judge handed Colin Foley an 18-month conditional sentence order, meaning he will serve his sentence in the community with strict reporting conditions, including the period of house arrest.He was also ordered to provide a DNA sample.
