DIDSBURY - A group of Calgary residents have been travelling through Central Alberta sharing the message that organ harvesting is going on in China and needs to be stopped.

“We're part of a car tour. We're part of an organized event going all across Canada,” Michael Wing, volunteer for the Falun Gong Association of Calgary, said during a Sept. 26 stopover in Didsbury.

“We're from Calgary and we're visiting all the small cities and towns in southern Alberta.”

The association's decision to have members visit rural communities was prompted by the recent release of a report on human rights abuses in China, he said.

“It's been a 10-year investigation into the human rights abuses in China that was finally made public in June of 2016,” he said. “In essence, it brought to light mass murder that is going on in China. It's basically a holocaust that is going on.”

A press release from the group stated that the report, which was conducted by a human rights lawyer from Canada, a former Canadian Secretary of State, and an investigative journalist, revealed that Falun Gong prisoners of conscience are being killed to supply China's lucrative organ trade.

“Between 60- and 100,000 practioners (of Falun Gong) are killed per year,” he said. “Their organs are removed and sold for profit.”
